Two and a half year old Crew was surprised in August with a brand new television, a DVD player and a library of movies for his bedroom.
Crew was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage 4 on Halloween night in 2008, when he was just 6 months old. When the mass on his liver was found, he immediately began chemotherapy. His organs began to shut down; his heart stopped beating and emergency CPR was required to revive him. He underwent 15 months of treatment, where he spent countless days and hours at the hospital watching videos on the hospital TV to pass the time. Crew’s mom, Maegan, says that he has a huge personality and adores the Disney movie “Toy Story”. He loves to play make believe and pretend he is Buzz Lightyear and often shouts “To Infinity and Beyond!”
Crew’s parents contacted Children’s Wish Foundation about Crew’s wish for a television and DVD player for his room. Maegan says, “We were thrilled to discover that CWFI offered the TV/DVD collection because Crew enjoys children’s videos and music so much!” The Foundation arranged for Crew to receive a brand new 22” television/DVD player combo and all of Crew’s favorite Disney movies. Among his favorites are “Finding Nemo”, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, “Tarzan”, “Jungle Book”, and of course, “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2”.
Crew’s mom stated that watching their son fight for his life through chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and infections was very stressful. She says, “We often felt isolated during the process; life went on for the rest of the world but was at a standstill for our family. Crew’s wish meant so much to us because it was a tangible expression of support; a recognition that people cared about our son and wanted to bring him joy.”
