12-year old Zachary from South Carolina is a very accomplished young man! He is a straight-A student and goalie for his school’s soccer team. But sometimes, the games conflict with his medical treatment. Zac was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, a type of cancer that can damage tissue or cause lesions to form in one or more places in the body.
Children’s Wish Foundation International arranged an Alaskan adventure for the whole family. On his trip, Zac rode the Alaska Railroad for a tour across the state to Seward. There, he and his family were invited to cruise Resurrection Bay to see native wildlife such as whales and moose.
Zac reported back to us that his favorite part of the adventure was riding first class on the railroad and seeing the beautiful countryside. He said, “The train was the best part of our trip to Alaska! It was really cool being on the only train in the world with an upper observation deck! We saw bald eagles’ nests and even two eagles waiting for a fisherman to catch some fish!” Happy days.
Many thanks to Alaska Railroad for the use of their photo of the Coastal Classic train.
